    WHAT & WHERE TO EAT

    Marmaris is covered with pine forests. They are much loved by the local people for creating great vistas, giving shade and for their part in the production of the famous local honey! Marmaris is typical of the region in that it boasts many elaborate olive oil dishes, for example, Kabak Çiçeği Dolması (stuffed marrow blooms), Şevket-i Bostan and samphire. Şevket-i Bostan (Holy thistle) is a local herb, popularly used in the region. It is a type of plant with the root and stem part all edible.

    WHAT TO DO IN MARMARİS

    The town centre of Marmaris is where the castle, port and marina are located. The medieval castle, now a museum, that overlooks the whole area around the harbour and gives you a taste of the old town's character. Many of these historical structures are in a good state of preservation. Marmaris Castle organized as Archaeology Museum is one and only museum in Marmaris.

    Go for a swim and enjoy the golden sand. To reach to Sedir Island, you’ll need to make the relatively easy trip to the village of Çamlı and from there you can make the short boat crossing. The island is also referred to as Cleopatra Island, as legend has it that Cleopatra and Marcus Antonius bathed here 2000 years ago.

    The beach at Turunç is a Blue Flag beach and has a blend of coarse sand and pebbles, covered with sun loungers and parasols for a blissful afternoon in the sun. The beach withdrawn from the coastline, in a cove where the water is a darker shade of aquamarine and as calm as can be.

    Marmaris is a major centre for traditional gullet cruises as well as luxury yacht charters. Gullets are wooden sailing vessels traditionally built along the western coast of Türkiye that have evolved into comfortable luxurious yachts.

    Relax in a hidden bay, away from noise of the town; on the peninsula where Marmaris is located you’ll find many unspoilt and hidden bays to escape from the bustle and noise of town life. Lie down on golden sands, listen to the waves of the turquoise sea, and conserve some energy for the night!

    Go to Marmaris Bar Street; The place to go out in Marmaris is just one street inland from the waterfront next to the marina. True to its name, Bar Street is full of the bars and clubs catering to people in their late-teens and twenties. In the high season the place is heaving, and each venue starts to fill up around 23:00, with the party continuing until daylight.

    Go cycling in the forests on marked routes; Marmaris boasts 9 road bike and 11 mountain bike waymarked routes. From the town centre to hidden bays, on single paths or narrow asphalt ways.

    Marmaris experiences a delightful Mediterranean climate marked by warm, dry summers and mild, damp winters. With an abundance of sunshine exceeding 300 days a year, Marmaris beckons visitors to its sandy beaches and captivating landscapes. Summer temperatures typically range from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F), creating the perfect environment for seaside activities and leisurely strolls along the coast. Winters are gentle, with temperatures averaging between 8°C to 15°C (46°F to 59°F), offering a pleasant respite from harsher winter conditions elsewhere. Occasional rainfall during the winter months rejuvenates the lush vegetation, enhancing the scenic beauty of the region. Marmaris's climate invites year-round exploration and relaxation amidst its enchanting natural surroundings.

    WHAT TIME IS IT IN MARMARİS?

    Türkiye is in a single time zone.

    Until September 2016, Türkiye was on Eastern European time, two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT/UTC), except during Daylight Saving Time, when it was three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

    However, in September 2016, Türkiye announced that the country would not return to Eastern European Time in October. Instead, Türkiye would stay on Daylight Saving Time all year, which means that now all year Turkish time is three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT/UTC+3).
